If you have been following informatics very long, you may have heard of the term—“consumer health informatics”. While several different groups have compiled their own definition of the term, we now can learn from a wonderful new group—the Consumer Health Informatics Work Group at ADA to flesh out the meaning to dietitians. This work group has been established to further research the needs and expectations of members as it relates to consumer health informatics. Jody Engel is Chair of the group who is comprised of Kathleen Zelman (Board of Directors Liaison), Peggy Turner (Nutrition Informatics Committee Liaison), Molly Morgan, Desiree Stapley, and Nadine Fisher.
During the next few months, they will be reaching out to members in a variety of ways—to gather your feedback on use of consumer health informatics (nutrition) across the profession. The committee has many ideas and resources (including social media and less conventional methods of information retrieval). Look for upcoming blogs on this fun topic!
