With greater adoption of health information technology, there have been significant discussions concerning the designation of allergies in electronic health records and other technologies—such as personal health records. Last year, ADA commented on the importance of food allergy documentation in Stage 1 Meaningful Use Comments. Due to inconsistencies in reporting and a lack of standards, particularly for food allergies—there needs to be harmonization so we all speak the same language.
