Meet You at the Genius Zone

Submitted by Peggy Turner, MS, RD/LD, Chair, Nutrition Informatics Committee

Now that the new semester has begun, you know that the Food & Nutrition Conference & Expo (FNCE) is right around the corner. Seems like just yesterday that we were in Philadelphia, but I must admit, I am excited to think about heading to Houston because FNCE is filled with many new technology opportunities this year.

Once I saw it advertised on the FNCE Web site, it did not take me long to download the new APP, available free for Apple or Android devices. This year, I can view which educational sessions to attend, look for an exhibitor’s location on the expo floor, and personalize my whole FNCE experience—now that is digital!

I found another new addition this year while looking at the Speaker Help Site. This year, you can download a Marketing Toolkit, which offers flyers and banners that you can customize as you see fit, even if you are not a speaker. After you are done, you can place them on Web sites, drop them in a newsletter, or send them out via Twitter. Making customized, professional flyers and advertising events or sessions was never so easy!

By now, many of you may have already read the Nutrition Informatics Blog from last week. A Nutrition Informatics Video Challenge sounds like a fabulous opportunity to show other members of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics how you have incorporated nutrition informatics into your daily routine. Who knows, you might even win an iPad®.

You also will find a new addition on the expo floor. Make sure to stop by Booth #1352, Genius Zone–Nutrition Informatics. You can learn about a new Electronic Health Record/Personal Health Record Nutrition Best Practices Guide and the Nutrition Informatics Competencies, get a Nutrition Informatics RD ribbon, and watch the videos that members submitted for the Video Challenge. You can meet members of the Nutrition Informatics Committee, the Interoperability and Standards Sub-Committee, and the Consumer Health Informatics Work Group, who can help answer all your burning nutrition informatics questions. You also can listen to several speakers from various sessions as they continue their conversations about how they have incorporated nutrition informatics into their practice. If nothing else, I would love for you to stop by to say “hello.” Hope to see you there!
