The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics Foundation
ConAgra Foods and the ConAgra Foods Foundation have shown an exemplary commitment to the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics Foundation by supporting scholarships, research and public education, particularly around the issue of home food safety and family nutrition.
More than $75,000 has been donated by ConAgra Foods for the Academy Foundation’s Scholarship Program. These dollars allow the best and brightest to continue their academic careers in the field of dietetics. ConAgra Foods has also partnered with the Academy for the ConAgra Foods Home Food Safety Program – a web-based initiative that provides content developed by Registered Dietitian Nutritionists to educate consumers about how to prevent food borne illness in the home. Their sponsorship includes $50,000 in scholarships awarded annually through the ConAgra Foods Home Food Safety Student Challenge Grants. These scholarships are awarded to college and university students studying in the field of nutrition who develop innovative strategies to promote food safety on their campuses.
ConAgra Foods was a sponsor of the Kids Eat Right Summit and the first exhibitor to raise money at their booth during the Food & Nutrition Conference & Expo (FNCE) to benefit the Foundation’s Nutrition Education for the Public Fund. In addition ConAgra Foods is an annual sponsor of the Academy Foundation Gala that takes place each year during FNCE.
Through an educational grant from ConAgra Foods and the ConAgra Foods Foundation, the Academy Foundation sponsored a story mapping workshop to develop a framework for a message map to help Academy members communicate the connections between hunger and obesity. One of the outcomes from this session was the development of the Nourish to Flourish infographic. In addition, twenty five $200 mini-grants to lead Hunger in Our Community, What We Can Do presentations were made available to Kids Eat Right Campaign Members through ConAgra Foods' and the ConAgra Foods Foundation's support.
Most recently, ConAgra Foods Foundation supported the Guide for Effective Nutrition Interventions and Education (GENIE) which was developed through the ConAgra Foods Foundation's Nutrition Education Research Fellowship. GENIE is a validated online checklist available for nutrition educators and program evaluators. It identifies characteristics associated with strong nutrition education programs and allows users to complete a self-assessment of an existing program and provides resources for strengthening proposals.
The Academy Foundation would like to thank ConAgra Foods and the ConAgra Foods Foundation for their valuable support.
