I am honored to be a recipient of the Chartwells KER mini-grant and plan to use presentations for the toolkits: "Healthy Snacking. In a Nutshell. and "Healthy Breakfast. Everywhere You Go." to elementary students in a “Healthy Kids” after school program. The “Trail Mix My Way” looks to be a fun make and taste activity! The Healthy Breakfast toolkit provides examples of breakfast choices that are easy, affordable, and delicious which should serve as motivation to eat breakfast every day! I am looking forward to the opportunity to make a difference in the health and well-being of kids!

I was the recipient of a Healthy Breakfast RD mini-grant in the fall of 2011. I partnered with our nutrition students at the University of Alabama to provide presentations on eating a healthy breakfast and healthy snacking to children in our community. We used the healthy breakfast/snacking toolkits and gave 8-10 presentations to children in a mentoring program in our community. We also incorporated a little dancing into our program where the student led young students in dancing to Beyonce’s song, “Let’s Move.” The children loved dancing with our nutrition students! Our nutrition students were great role models and educators to these young students in our community. It was a privilege for me to work with our nutrition students on this initiative and to educate young children in our community on the importance of healthy eating.

I thoroughly enjoyed using the Family Meals toolkit to help get several neighborhood moms excited to make healthy family meals a priority. I hosted a "moms night out" and offered family-friendly snacks (recipes provided!) and a comfortable atmosphere to learn about how to make family meals easy, fun and nutritious. The presentation was very well received, and the audience spent a good deal of time during and after the presentation sharing their challenges and successes, allowing me to learn some new tips as well! Thanks for the great toolkit, I hope to use it many more times!

I am excited to receive the Kids Eat Right Mini-Grant through Chartwells. I am presenting to first graders at Sward Elementary School about eating a healthy breakfast. I believe this is such a crucial age to get kids into healthy habits so they can continue with these habits over a lifetime.

The MultiCare Center for Healthy Living dietitians in Tacoma, Washington completed two “Family Meals. Anytime. Anyplace.” presentations using the toolkit provided. The presentations were offered to groups of 15-20 high school aged students and we provided healthy yogurt parfait as a snack. The participants were very engaged on the topic and showed particular interest in the discussion questions. Overall we had two very fun classes and students walked away excited about pursuing more family meal time and getting more involved in healthy eating! We were thrilled to be a recipient of the Kids Eat Right mini-grant – thank you for the opportunity and the wonderful resources!

I am proud to be a KER member and thrilled to be a recipient of a Family Champions mini grant. In my role as a KER member, I presented a talk on Family Champions. One Change at a Time. to a "Mommy & Me" group (Mothers and infants). Setting the foundation for eating right starts with infancy. It was very rewarding to discuss principles of good nutrition, and simple techniques of how easily family meals can be implemented especially with a group of new parents. The Family Champions toolkit made my presentation very easy and I completed my talk with a hands-on demo and sampling. The 10 no-recipe entrees handout was a big hit. Kudos to KER for putting together these easy to use tool kits. I will be using more of them in my future presentations for sure.

I am a Kids Eat Right Campaign Member in Hong Kong and a recipient of the Family Meals mini-grant. I translated the Family Meals for Parent toolkit into Chinese, which will be included in our International Kids Eat Right Library. Using the translated toolkit, I conducted two parent sessions to Chinese audience, one in the United Kingdom and one in Hong Kong. During the events, everyone enjoyed the jacket potato, so my worries that they wouldn't accept it was unfounded. Surprisingly, evaluation forms showed that many didn't even know potato skins are edible! Salsa made with green and red pepper was also widely loved!
