As a Healthy Breakfast RD Mini-Grantee, I did a presentation for my son’s first grade class. This is a picture of me with my son, Jack.

The Family Champions parent cooking toolkit was very easy to use. I really liked the fact that the presentations were interactive and got participants involved. The handouts complimented the presentations nicely. The favorite was the “10 no-recipe meal ideas” handout. Participants commented how much they appreciated the "grocery list" already done for them—no thinking involved!

I presented about Kids Eat Right as part of a session at a conference in Israel about childhood obesity, with speakers from Israel, Venezuela and the U.S. Many commented that they loved the Kids Eat Right gala video. I was happy to share something so inspirational with them. I think that we lit many fires! Now, we have much work ahead. Let's keep up the momentum!

I was honored to represent the Nutrition Education for the Public Dietetic Practice Group as a reviewer for the Family Champions toolkit. For me, one of the best features of the kit is the 10 No-recipe Entrees. When we can show – through simple cooking demonstrations and actual food tasting easy-to-prepare, delicious family meals – we help make better nutrition a reality. These ideas may seem simple or even common to dietitians, but for most families, the ideas are new or reinforcing of changes they are making. I believe food is our best teaching tool! As a Kids Eat Right volunteer, I was lucky enough to receive a grant to provide workshops in my area using the Family Champions Toolkit, reaching nearly 200 parents. In the photo, I show how easy it is to take No-Recipe Entrée #1 and make quesadillas! Use a pizza cutter to make wedges for easy serving and serve with broccoli, strawberries, diced fresh tomatoes and avocado and milk. Easy and delicious!

Puerto Rico
As a Healthy Breakfast RD Mini-Grant recipient, I performed the Healthy Breakfast presentations at San Juan Bosco School. This is a school located in the Cantera Sector (San Juan, Puerto Rico) and it was founded by a community of Salesians with the purpose of helping the less fortunate young population. I like the fact that the Healthy Breakfast toolkit was very useful and appropriate for the age of the participants.
