RD Parent Empowerment Program

RD Parent Empowerment Program 2012-2013

The RD Parent Empowerment Program is entering its third year through an educational grant from MetLife Foundation. The program will be held by Registered Dietitians in three school and three community sites in Chicago, San Francisco, and Washington, DC.

The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics Foundation is partnering with an internship program at Eastern Tennessee State University, where two interns will co-teach the RD Parent Empowerment Program at a community site. Four interactive parent workshops will run from January through May 2013, helping parents adopt the 8 Habits of Healthy Children and Families and empowering parents to shop smart, cook healthy, and eat right! Are you interested in leading this program in your community? Stay tuned, as the RD Parent Empowerment Program will become available at www.kidseatright.org/volunteer for all members to download the all-new materials in English, Spanish, and Chinese!

RDs Participate in Parent Empowerment Program Workshop

RD Empowerment

Twelve RDs from San Francisco, Chicago, and Washington, D.C. participated in a training workshop at Academy headquarters to lead the Kids Eat Right RD Parent Empowerment project in their respective cities. Developed by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics Foundation (ANDF) in collaboration with Healthy Children Healthy Futures, and funded by the Met Life Foundation, this unique program brings the expertise of Registered Dietitians into school and community settings to educate and empower parents to improve their families’ eating and physical activity habits and to influence their peers to do the same.
