Kids Eat Right - What's New

The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics Foundation Kids Eat Right aims to provide many new resources to assist members in working with schools and communities to help kids eat better and move more.

To support the use of the Kids Eat Right toolkits, grants are available at various times during the year.

The First Joint Effort of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and Foundation

Kids Eat Right Logo

The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (the Academy) and the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics Foundation (the Foundation) launched their first joint initiative, Kids Eat Right, in November 2010. This member-driven campaign is dedicated to supporting the efforts of the White House to end the childhood obesity epidemic within a generation. We know that kids need a quality diet of the right foods to optimize their growth and development and to maintain a healthy weight. Our expertise is the reason we must become more involved to improve the lives of generations to come.

Kids Eat Right is a two-tiered campaign aimed to mobilize our members to participate in community and school childhood obesity prevention efforts, and also to educate families, communities, and policy makers about the importance of quality nutrition. Kids Eat Right will provide members with the resources to become more recognized leaders in childhood obesity prevention and to raise the awareness of the need to help children meet their nutrient requirements.

Kids Need You

The first year of Kids Eat Right depends on members like you. Members will have the opportunity to get involved in Kids Eat Right in several ways. All campaign actions aim to achieve our goals to EDUCATE key audiences about the necessity of a quality diet and the consequences of poor nutrition; ADVOCATE on behalf of a quality nutrition approach to promote growth and development; and DEMONSTRATE the food and nutrition expertise of registered dietitians through educational programming and advocacy.

Campaign Volunteer Program

Members can also sign up as Campaign Volunteers. Enrollment is easy and allows members to take actions and educate families on strategies for bringing the family together for healthy meals each day. Weekly messages, shopping ideas, cooking tips and recipes are meant to be shared through social media and will be easily accessible online and ready to send, post and even personalize. Our DPG/MIG partners and state affiliates will offer their expertise and resources online to equip Campaign Volunteers to fulfill our commitment to Kids Eat Right.
