Stay Informed

The Marianne Smith Edge Award

This award provides funding for a practicing RD (less than 10 years) and Academy member working in the consultation/business area to attend the Academy Leadership Institute. The attendee must qualify for attendance through the open call for attendees offered online annually.

Funds can be used to cover the costs of meeting registration and travel. The award check will be issued once the eligible applicant provides documentation of paid meeting registration. The recipient is required to submit an essay documenting their experience at the conference to the Foundation within 60 days of attendance. The recipient is also encouraged to submit the essay to the Dietitians in Business and Communications DPG to be included in their newsletter.

About the Leadership Institute

The Academy's Leadership Institute is an integrated, intensive, multi-format certificate training program in the theory and practice of leadership in dietetics. The purpose of the program is to enhance the leadership competencies of Academy members both conceptually and interpersonally, through a combination of information, skill development and practice-based educational experiences.

The Academy's Leadership Institute presents a forum for learning, dialogue and sharing of perspectives.

 

Goals of the Leadership Institute

  • Strengthen leadership performance for application in practice by Academy members.
  • Assist members to master change in both personal and professional environments.
  • Advance the goals of the profession.
  • Enhance member communication, mentoring and team building skills.
