Continuing Education Awards

The following Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics Foundation awards are available to all Academy members. The annual application deadline is February 1 unless otherwise noted. The amount of the award is determined by investment return of the fund endowment.

Barbara Ann F. Hughes — NEP DPG Continuing Education Award

This award is given to provide educational stipends for nutrition professionals on the subjects of policy initiatives, advocacy and/or private practice. Preference will be given to members of Nutrition Education for the Public (NEP) DPG.


CDR Leadership Grant

The purpose of this fund is to provide financial support to RDs and DTRs to obtain leadership training. The training programs should prepare individuals to move into leadership positions within their organization. Deadline to apply: August 1st, November 1st, February 1st or May 1st.


E. Neige Todhunter Memorial Doctoral Fellowship

This award is given to master prepared dietetics educators and practitioners to pursue doctoral studies.


Food and Culinary Professionals DPG Communications and Educational Award Fund

This award provides funding for food educational presentations made by a dietitian or dietetic technician as well as provide funding for culinary educational enrichment for a dietitian or dietetic technician. Funds are available for dietetic professionals new to their careers, as well as those who are seasoned and wish to expand their knowledge and experiences.


Frakes Continuing Education Award

This award is given to Management in Food and Nutrition Systems DPG members for continuing education through attendance at the Academy's Food & Nutrition Conference & Expo. Apply at any time.


Frederick Green Memorial Internship

This award is provides a grant for a nutrition and dietetics student who has secured an unpaid, full-time, 6- to 8-week summer internship with an RD who is a member of the Academy specializing in nutrition communications, specifically related to media and public relations. The practitioner should be one who can use assistance and provide the student with meaningful experiences related to media and nutrition communications. This must not be a position that the RD could or would normally be able to pay a student or RD to do.


Gaynold Jensen Memorial Continuing Education Award

This award is given as scholarships to members of Dietetics in Health Care Communities DPG for educational programs that enhance the contributions of the consultant dietitian to health care. Apply at any time.


Grace L. Ostenso Nutrition and Public Policy Fellowship

The Grace L. Ostenso Nutrition and Public Policy Fellowship is intended to allow an Academy member to participate in the Congressional Science and Engineering Fellows Program, which is coordinated by the American Association for the Advancement of Science. The fellowship participant will spend one year in Washington, D.C. working as a special assistant in a government or legislative position that would benefit from scientific and engineering input. The Academy is an AAAS partner in this fellowship program along with 30 other scientific and engineering societies that also have participating fellows.


Gwendolyn Rossell Memorial Continuing Education Award

This award is given to members of the Public Health Nutrition DPG for short-term educational programs that enhance the contributions of public health nutritionists to health care. Apply at any time.


Margene Wagstaff Fellowship for Innovation in Dietetics Education


Marie and August LoPresti, Sr. Endowment Fund Faculty Development Award

This award was established to recognize the LoPrestis' contributions to the foodservice, hospitality and dietetics professions. It supplies continuing education funding for faculty of Ohio Universities and Colleges.


Mary C. Zahasky Memorial Continuing Education Award

This award provides continuing education funding to Academy members for short-term educational programs related to the field of Dietetics, to widen, renew and elaborate professional development.


Pittsburgh Dietetic Association Leadership Development Award

This award was established to recognize emerging leaders among current graduates of supervised practice programs and encourage their participation in Association activities. The award will cover expenses (up to $1,000) for one qualified applicant to attend the Academy's Food & Nutrition Conference & Expo (FNCE®). Applicants must be a resident of Pennsylvania or student or graduate of Pennsylvania program. Application deadline is August 15th.

Rebecca Snowball Reeves Continuing Education Award

The Rebecca Snowball Reeves Continuing Education Award provides educational stipends for dietetics professionals working in the area of obesity.


Ruby P. Puckett Leadership Award

Apply now for the new Ruby P Puckett Leadership Award from the Foundation. This award provides funding for one Management in Food and Nutrition Systems (MFNS) member to attend the Academy Leadership Institute who has demonstrated a desire to grow in leadership skills. Written nominations for the Academy Leadership Institute Award may be submitted by any member of MFNS including self-nominations.

  • Award amount: up to $1,500 to be used for travel, registration, lodging and food expenses

Susan T. Borra Fellowship in Nutrition Communication

This award is given to help deserving individuals enhance their capabilities in the area of nutrition communication in leading universities, public health organizations and professional societies.


Washington State Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics Educational Award

This award is given to provide funding for professional educational enrichment for a dietitian or dietetic technician. Applicant must be a member of the Academy and the Washington State Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics for at least three years.

  • The amount of award is determined by investment return of the fund endowment and will not be more than 75% of the combined registration fee and travel expense.
